When I started writing The Grinmaker, I wasn't trying to create a franchise or a "big horror idea." | was trying to make sense of a feeling I couldn't get rid of - that quiet, sickening certainty that something is watching you from the corner of your life, waiting for the moment you're weakest.
There's a particular kind of horror that relies on jump scares, loud noises, and things leaping out of the dark. Those films have their place - they're fun, fast, and easy to consume.
People talk a lot about writing like it's this romantic, artistic ritual - candles, playlists, the perfect desk, inspiration arriving on time like a polite guest.
